Thai
travellers and serious backpackers have known about, and been travelling to Koh Lanta for many
years now. As an international tourist destination however, Koh Lanta
has only recently started to take off. This surge in tourism, and
consequently investment into the tourism industry, was greatly assisted
when Krabi Airport re-opened in 1999. This helped to reduce transfer
times making Koh Lanta so much more accessible.
The
island of Koh Lanta, in Krabi province, consists of two Islands, Koh
Lanta Noi (small) and Koh Lanta Yai (large). It is the latter where
millions of dollars are being invested in new five star hotels,
residential housing and upgrading the infrastructure, whereas the
former, from a tourist standpoint at least, is only used for shuttle
services between the two required car ferries.
In
this section of Koh Lanta, we will be giving you an insight into the how
to get to Koh Lanta, the different beaches, reviews of the hotels, information about what there
is to do on Koh Lanta, and the diving opportunities.
