Pizza! Thai food is fast establishing itself as
a global favourite, so it is understandable if for people
travelling to this culturally rich country, they do not have
eating Italian food as a high priority.
But, for those that live in Thailand,
finding good quality Italian food and especially pizza
is not as easy to find as in places like Europe.
Zanotti which is close to Silom,
Beccofino which is on Thonglor and Biscotti at the Four
Seasons Hotel are regarded by many as the best Italian
restaurants in Bangkok.
These restaurants offer customers an
Italian culinary experience of the highest quality, and
it should be noted - much more than just pizza.
Then just a few months ago (H1-2009),
an Italian chef by the name of Claudio Uolpetti, opened
Cibus at one
of, if not the most popular shopping centres in the
whole of Thailand - Siam Paragon.
Cibus by Claudio Uolpetti is not a restaurant, it is a
gourmet produce counter within the supermarket on the
first floor of this mega mall. It specialises in high
quality imported Italian products including meats,
cheeses, freshly made pizzas and Italian breads.
You can buy the high quality
produce to take home, or sit yourself by the counter top
to enjoy a welcome respite from all the shopping and the
chance to savour some of the best Italian pizza in
Bangkok. Their pizzas are among the best we have ever
tasted anywhere - including Italy. They are all made
from imported Italian produce and are, according to the
chef at least, Roma-style.
They are also reasonably priced
with a generous slice starting from around 80 Baht and
rising to 120 Baht for the '5 Cheeses' culinary delight.
So it may not be a priority, but if
you do find yourself at Siam Paragon, be sure to look
out for Cibus by Claudio Uolpetti and try a slice of what could well be the
best pizza in Bangkok.
