Along with all our other country tips and guides, we also cover Bars in Phuket, Bars in Singapore, Bars in Dubai, Bars in Koh Samui, Bars in Hong Kong, Bars in Manila, Bars in Jakarta, Bars in Bangkok and Bars in Vietnam.

Bats - The Shangri-La houses this great bar, one of the oldest hotel bars and still one of the hottest spots in town. The bar still uses imported bands, and they get rocking at 9 to 9:30. They have a restaurant attached, that serves some great food. It gets packed out on the standard Friday and Saturday nights, but it tends to be busy almost every night. There is a small dance area where you can work off the calories, and stress of the day. A Premier Travel Awards for Excellence winner.

CJ's - Many in Jakarta will tell you that CJ's, at the impressive Mulia Hotel, has taken over the top spot as the best hotel bar/club in Jakarta, and we would not disagree. As with all F&B outlets at the Mulia Hotel the bar has been extremely well designed, with plenty of space for you to move around and watch the live performances. Prices are reasonable considering you are in a 5-star hotel, and the bar does get very busy, even mid-week when other bars tend to be quiet. A Premier Travel Awards for Excellence winner.

Not sure whether to go to CJ's or Bats? Thankfully they are located quite close together, so you could try both if you wanted!

Closed, But Not Forgotten

O'Reillys - CLOSED - The Grand Hyatt used to have one of the best early-evening (Irish) bars in the city. Unfortunately, they closed it.

Tanamur - CLOSED - One of the most infamous places in Jakarta and some would say that no visit to Jakarta was complete without at least one visit. It used to cost 20,000 to get in which included a drink and 20,000 per beer thereafter. It was never worth going to before midnight.

JJ's - CLOSED - An institution!! Located right next to Tanamur - in fact it was owned by the same people - this place used to be an absolute must. It attracted a lot of the local expats living in the city. On week days it cost nothing to get in. The disco area was slightly elevated, and relatively small but they also had a nice outdoor spot, with tables and chairs. Again, as with Tanamur, it was never worth going to before midnight.
