Knutsford
Terrace is Tsim Sha Tsui's answer to Central's Lan Kwai Fong. It is a
very narrow walkway offering a now fashionable place to eat and drink.
For travellers the main concern will be finding Knutsford Terrace, so
you may need a little help or ask around. It is a few minutes walk from
Tsim Sha Tsui's MTR station exit B1 and a reasonable walk from the Hung
Hom KCR station.
Knutsford
Terrace is definitely an 'in' place at the moment and offers visitors
sports bars, fine dining Italian restaurants, a Japanese, a Steak House,
a Russian restaurant with an unusual vodka freezer and other bars and
restaurants. Some outlets do offer outside terrace dining but we found
this slightly claustrophobic due to the narrowness of the terrace and by
the fact it is, as is most of Hong Kong, flanked by tall skyscrapers.
The
place is normally busy daily and like anywhere, even more so at
weekends.
One
outstanding restaurant and bar is Merhaba, which is a modern style
Turkish restaurant which even offers customers flavoured Hubbly Bubbly's
to smoke. This restaurant manages to offer an enjoyable and comfortable
escape from a typical evening out, and we highly recommend it.
The
Balalaika is the Russian Restaurant of which we had heard numerous
praises especially for its Vodka Bar, at least that is what people were
telling us. Unfortunately images of a large ice style bar were dashed
when we found that in actual fact it is a small Freezer room with window
that looks out on the restaurant. The Balalaika even offers customers
fake fur coats and hats Russian style to help you keep warm once inside.
It is definitely worth having a shot or two here, but to call it a Vodka
Bar or to give you an idea of an ice bar would be wrong, they do serve
excellent Russian food and a wide variety of excellent vodka's.
