AirAsia's low cost flights between Bangkok and Singapore take off

AirAsia Thai operations first international flight serving Bangkok - Singapore took off on its maiden flight today. Flight FD 700 bound for Singapore departed at 7.10 am (local time) from Dong Muang International Airport.

The route connecting Bangkok and Singapore was announced earlier this month. Bookings commenced on Feb 7th , 2004 with fares from Baht 1300 (S$ 59.99) one way.

Tassapon Bijleveld , Chief Executive Office, AirAsia Thailand commented on this exciting development, “We are pleased to be the first low fares airline to bring our service to Changi Airport Singapore. Ultimately, we are offering an affordable alternative to move traffic from Thailand to Singapore and vice versa. Our second hub in Senai, also servicing Bangkok, will fit perfectly to supplement Bangkok – Singapore service in Singapore. Moving forward, we will work closely with the Tourism Authority Of Thailand, and Singapore Tourism Board to promote this new service and to drive healthy traffic between both countries. With the right strategy and the support given, we are confident that we can develop this route into a winner that will benefit consumers.”

AirAsia in Thailand commenced operations on 3 Feb 2004 with flights to Hatyai, Chiang Mai, Phuket and Khon Kaen from Bangkok International Airport. Response to the low fares airline in Thailand has been overwhelming. AirAsia Thai operations have to date carried over 15000 guests, and is set to achieve an 80% load factor for the month of February.
