1. BelugaXL Receives EASA Type Certification
The BelugaXL has received Type Certification from the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA), paving the way for entry-into-service by early 2020. Being seven metres longer and one metre wider than its BelugaST predecessor, the BelugaXL has 30% extra transport capacity.

Following a five-night long road convoy from Aernnova’s factory in Berantevilla, north eastern Spain, the panels (two laterals, one central) are required to complete the rear section of the BelugaXL.
4. First Structurally Complete BelugaXL Moves into Testing Phase
The first structurally complete airframe for the new BelugaXL has rolled out from its assembly hangar in Toulouse, France. Once operational, a fleet of these next-generation airlifters will be used to transport completed sections of Airbus aircraft among the company’s European production sites and to its final assembly lines in France, Germany and Spain.
5. Airbus’ BelugaXL Enters Service
The BelugaXL has entered service, providing Airbus with 30% extra transport capacity that will support the on-going production ramp-up of commercial aircraft programmes.

The first BelugaXL has rolled out of the paint shop unveiling a special livery that makes it look like a Beluga Whale. The livery was one of six choices submitted to Airbus employees through a poll where 20,000 people participated. With 40% votes in favour, the smiley livery won.
