The European Aviation Network (EAN) has taken to the skies. Inmarsat and Deutsche Telekom, together with their technology partners Nokia and Thales have successfully conducted a programme of test flights in the UK.

Air Astana will soon be able to offer passengers inflight connectivity, following an agreement signed with air transport IT provider, Rockwell Collins. Air Astana will install the Inmarsat Global Xpress (GX) high speed connectivity system on its fleet of Boeing 767 airliners commencing September 2016.

SITA OnAir is developing the first EASA Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) for Inmarsat’s high speed Ka-band broadband service, GX Aviation. SITA OnAir is working with EAD Aerospace, an Eclipse company, on the STC to retro fit Boeing 777 series aircraft, on behalf of an undisclosed airline.

Honeywell and EAD Aerospace have received European Aviation Safety Agency certification for its JetWave high-speed satellite communications hardware on the Airbus A319. The certification allows JetWave to be installed and used on the A319 aircraft, providing passengers, pilots and operators with access to Inmarsat’s Global Xpress Ka-band service, GX Aviation.
