Page 3 of 8. Hong Kong once again reaffirmed its position as
the rugby capital of Asia, by hosting a match between The British
and Irish Lions and the Barbarians. The Lions and Barbarians had met just once
before, in 1977 for the Silver Jubilee Trust Fund. And, what made
the event in Hong Kong, which took place on Saturday, 1 June 2013 even the more special, was that is was not only the
first time that The Lions had ever played in Hong Kong, but also
the very first time they had stopped off on the way to a tour. The extreme heat and humidity on Saturday will
have proved a challenge for both teams, but it was The Lions that
stormed to a convincing eight-try victory. By half time, The Lions
were already up 23-3, and as the game became more and more one
sided, The Lions showed their strength, unity and determination,
to win the game 59-8. People from all over the world had flown into
Hong Kong to watch the game, and while the crowd of 28,643, may
well be short of capacity, the atmosphere was electric. As there are so many
