SEARCH FOR DUBAI'S BEST HOTEL CONCIERGE LAUNCHED

6 June 2002

Dubai's Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) in its effort to further upgrade service industry standards throughout the emirate, has launched a campaign to select Dubai's best hotel concierge.

The campaign, being organised by Wafi City, supported by the DTCM and sponsored by What's On magazine, is targeting Dubai's 28 five-star hotels. The search will run over the next three months with the overall winner, or winning team, getting an extra Dhs1,000 a month in their pay packet for a year. There's also cash prizes of between Dhs500 and Dhs1,000 for various categories such as 'the concierge with the best smile' or 'the one with the most extensive knowledge of Dubai as a destination'.

'Dubai's Best Concierge' will be found following a mystery guest campaign with final assessment by the DTCM's training solutions department.

Khalid Saeed A. bin Touq, Manager - Licensing & Classification, DTCM said evaluation by the training solutions team would ensure absolute fairness.

"This is an excellent initiative and one which deserves congratulations," said Mr bin Touq. "The prizes will be awarded to an individual concierge, or team, that delivers exceptional customer service, presentation, local knowledge and for going the extra mile. All the qualities, in fact, that add up to making a world class concierge.

"Everyday, guests in Dubai's hotels are looking for help, advice and information on the city and its surroundings. They want to know where to go, what to buy, when big events are taking place - generally how to make the most of their visit. As a concierge, this should be all in a day's work. What will set Dubai apart is the way we deliver - the smile, the courtesy, the readiness to help - and this campaign encourages these high quality standards."

Three mystery guests will visit the hotels over the summer. They will ask each concierge a variety of questions focussing on Dubai and its culture, sporting facilities, events and shopping amenities.

"Their performance will be rated and those short-listed will be assessed by the DTCM," said Moira Billington, Group Marketing Manager, Wafi City.

"In most cities in the world the concierge is the first point-of-call for a visitor and Dubai is no different. While obviously wishing to raise awareness of Wafi City among the emirate's concierge group, we also want to play our role in encouraging world-class standards in the tourism-related sector of which Wafi City is a key part.

"We at Wafi City are working to develop ever closer links with Dubai's incoming tour operators and tourism suppliers and have a keen interest in helping to ensure that visitors to the emirate receive the highest quality service and facilities."

Awards to Dubai's Best Concierge will be presented at a gala ceremony to be held in Wafi City's popular Pyramids leisure complex in September.
