AIRBUS TRAINING CENTRE CELEBRATES ITS 100,000th TRAINEE

5 July 2002

The Airbus training centre in Toulouse celebrated a milestone today as it welcomed its 100,000th trainee. To mark the event, Airbus Executive Vice President Customer Services Patrick Gavin and Senior Vice President Training and Flight Operations Division Pierre Baud presented a trophy to the 100,000th trainee Captain Chang Lun Ku of Eva Air.

The Toulouse centre, established in 1972, together with centres in Miami (USA) and Beijing (China) provide airlines with the best possible training and ensure a smooth and safe entry into service of Airbus aircraft around the world. They offer a broad range of customised, interactive courses with constantly updated programmes for pilots, mechanics, performance engineers and cabin attendants. Teaching is based on a combination of academic and practical training, supported by state-of-the-art training equipment such as fixed base simulators and full flight simulators with visual and motion systems. The wide variety of courses can be tailored to meet operators' individual training requirements.

Airbus training centres were the first to introduce Crew Resource Management (CRM) in their pilot training as well as in maintenance and cabin crew courses. Thanks to the Airbus family concept, considerable savings can be achieved in training via Cross Crew Qualification courses which allow pilots to transition from one member of the Airbus fly-by-wire family to another with a short difference course.

Training is just one facet of Airbus' customer services, which cover all areas of support and are dedicated to helping airlines get the most out of their Airbus aircraft and enhance the profitability of their Airbus fleets.
