Le Meridien flag flies over fifth property in UAE

26 June 2002

The luxury hotel group Le Meridien has announced the opening of its fifth property in the United Arab Emirates - and the fourth in Dubai - with the naming of Al Sondos Suites by Le Meridien, an all-suite property.

Sami Zoghbi, regional managing director, Le Meridien Middle East and West Asia, said: "We see an all-suite accommodation as widening the Le Meridien product offering in the UAE, in tandem with demand from business and leisure segments.

"Looking at Dubai specifically, the emirate is becoming increasingly pivotal in the world of business, and this accelerated development will take another huge leap forward in September 2003 with the staging of the IMF/World Bank convention.

"It is estimated that room-demand will exceed 20,000 rooms during that period alone. In the medium term, this further cements the emirate's position as a leading international conference venue and regional business hub."

Al Sondos Suites by Le Meridien is located in Dubai's downtown business and shopping district, next to the Deira City Centre shopping and entertainment complex, just 5 minutes by road from Dubai International Airport.

The property comprises 106 deluxe suites, a business centre, conference rooms, two restaurants, a state-of-the-art health and fitness centre and pool deck. Each suite contains original hand-painted art works and upscale furnishings, fixtures, and accessories, creating an ambience of understated elegance.

Russel Sharpe, senior vice president, sales and marketing, Le Meridien Middle East and West Asia, explained: "Due to the stable nature of the Dubai economy, which has encouraged more and more international corporations to increase their presence in the city, the number of long-stay visitors is on the increase.

"For this customer sector, a serviced suite or apartment, as opposed to a traditional hotel room, is often a more suitable option. But the suites are not just for businessmen. They will also suit families down to the ground - especially during consumer festival periods, such as Dubai Summer Surprises."

According to the property's general manager, Naif Zureikat, opening rates at Al Sondos Suites by Le Meridien start at Dhs 300 - for either single or double occupancy for an executive suite, up to Dhs 500 a night for a Royal Suite. From July 1, rates enter the summer price band from Dhs 325 a night. All prices are excluding local taxes.
