THOMAS COOK AG BECOMES NEW AIRBUS CUSTOMER WITH ORDER FOR TWO NEW AIRBUS A320'S

25 June 2002

Thomas Cook AG has placed its first ever order for new aircraft under the Thomas Cook name. A contract for the purchase of two Airbus A320 single-aisle aircraft has been signed at the Airbus Headquarters in Toulouse.

Both aircraft will be delivered beginning of 2003. One will be operated by Thomas Cook Airlines Belgium and one by the British holiday carrier JMC. It will be the first aircraft for JMC Airlines to be delivered in the new Thomas Cook livery, in line with the Group's recent announcement of a new corporate brand strategy for its fleet. The A320s are going to serve holiday destinations around the Mediterranean.

Thomas Cook's new A320 will be powered by CFM56 B4 engines and will feature a comfortable single-class layout. Airbus single-aisle aircraft have the widest cabin cross section, thus offering wider seats and wider aisles for the best cabin comfort in its class. The Airbus A320 Family offers in addition bigger overhead bins for a more convenient storage of modern travel trolleys.

"Thomas Cook AG and Airbus have enjoyed a long-standing relationship, through the individual airlines in the Group. I am pleased that we can today take this relationship one step further and for the first time purchase aircraft under the Thomas Cook name. The two new aircraft purchased today will carry the best known name in travel across the globe," said Stefan Pichler Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of Thomas Cook AG.

"We are pleased that Thomas Cook AG has once again selected the Airbus A320 for its fleet. Airbus' single-aisle Family offers an unmatched combination of low seat mile costs and lower financial risk for airlines," said Noël Forgeard, Airbus President and CEO. " With nearly 220 A320 Family aircraft in operation or committed specifically for the European tourism and low-fare industry, the A320 Family is the clear market leader in this segment," he added.

A leading aircraft manufacturer with the most modern and comprehensive product line on the market, Airbus is a global company with design and manufacturing facilities in France, Germany, the UK, and Spain as well as subsidiaries in the U.S., China and Japan. Headquartered in Toulouse, France, Airbus is an EADS joint Company with BAE SYSTEMS.
