Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) has announced the appointment of Victor Osumi as Vice President for Global Sales in Japan. He replaces Mitsu Okazaki who recently announced his retirement following more than 30 years as the company’s top sales leader in Japan. Mr. Okazaki will remain with Marriott through year-end as an advisor to Mr. Osumi.

The appointment became effective on July 22, 2002. Most recently, Mr. Osumi was regional sales director in Japan for the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group, a position he held since 1999. In his new role, he is in charge of Marriott’s global sales activities in Japan, including its reservations office.

“We are excited to welcome Victor to our sales team,” said Fred Miller, vice president for Global Sales. “He brings a wealth of experience in the Japanese market to his new role and are confident that he will play a major role as we continue to evolve our global sales force into a seamless unit that addresses clients at all levels with their global travel needs. At the same time, we would like to recognize the vast contributions made by Mitsu Okazaki over three decades in helping to build the Marriott sales presence in Japan.”

Mr. Osumi began his hospitality industry career with the Hyatt Regency Waikiki Hotel in Hawaii in 1991 as guest services manager. He held a number of sales positions with Hyatt Hotels both in the U.S. and in Tokyo prior to joining the Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group.

Earlier, he served for five years with the U.S. Air Force where he was with the 347 Tactical Air Commance and earned The Air Force Achievement Medal in 1991.

Mr. Osumi is a native of Tokyo and earned his B.S. degree in Aviation management, Flight Technology. He holds a commercial and instructor pilot certificate.

He is a member of SKAL International and the Airplane Owners and Pilot Association.

Mr. Osumi is married. He and his wife, Hisako, are the parents of an eight-year-old son.
