DTCM LAUNCHES NEW SERVICE TO ASSIST VISITORS

23 June 2002

The Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) announced the setting up of four Visitor Information Bureaus (VIB), aimed at visitors to Dubai’s leading shopping malls at a press conference in the department’s Head Office in Dubai today, June 23rd.

The new service that is now fully operational provides comprehensive information about Dubai’s attractions to visitors at four leading shopping Malls including Deira City Centre, Burjuman Centre, Wafi City Mall and Hamarain Centre.

Speaking to reporters at the venue, DTCM Director Operations and Marketing, Mohammed Khamis bin Hareb said, “We already have a comprehensive network of visitor information bureaus at strategic locations throughout Dubai including vantage points in the city such as Beniyas Square and Sheikh Zayed Road, two VIBs at the Dubai International Airport and one at the Dubai World Trade Centre.”

“Through perpetual communication with our partners in the private sector and based on their feedback as well as our own in-house research, we identified the need for information conduits at the malls in Dubai,” observed Mr. bin Hareb.

He noted that four leading malls in Dubai had graciously joined hands with the DTCM and provided free space at key locations inside the malls where there is a substantial flow of visitors.

The VIBs will function as the first point of contact for visitors to the malls and provide comprehensive information about Dubai’s tourism attractions and will be manned from 10.00 AM to 10.00 PM by DTCM personnel specially selected for their interpersonal skills and knowledge of the emirate’s facilities and services.

DTCM Manager, Visitor Information Bureaus, Salah Rashed Al Ansari added, “This service is designed to assist visitors who are in Dubai and will be a measure that ensures that they make the most out of their visit and their stay is enjoyable and fruitful.”

Mr. Al Ansari noted that the VIBs would provide information on all visitor services available in the emirate, from car hire and hotel accommodation, to tour operators, banks, sports and shopping facilities.

“Our motto for the VIBs is ‘Know before you go’ and we will strive to ensure that each visitor who approaches us is provided with extensive information about the emirate,” Mr. Al Ansari stated.

The full range of the DTCM’s promotional brochures will be made available to both business and leisure visitors including city maps, as well as the business booklets and newsletters published by the DTCM.

In addition to the DTCM’s own publications, the VIBs will also provide space for holding brochures and pamphlets of private sector firms servicing the tourism industry.

Mr. Al Ansari said, “Apart from handing out printed matter, DTCM executives at the VIBs would be available to answer questions about Dubai and assist in booking hotel rooms and tours. They have also been trained to handle business enquiries with the assistance of other DTCM and other government departments.”

To reflect Dubai’s modern and up-market image, the VIBs are tastefully designed by each mall and are equipped with full office automation including a computer with online capabilities, a fax and telephone.

Jim Badour, V.P. and General Manager, Deira City Centre “Deira City Centre is pleased to work in cooperation with the DTCM in the opening of the VIB, located at the main entrance of our Centre, adjacent to Customer Service on the ground floor. The importance of tourism to the region, as well as to the Shopping Centre makes this an ideal partnership for both our regular customers and tourists. With over 1 million visitors to Deira City Centre each month, the addition of the VIB will allow us to improve the level of services that we provide to our customers.”

Sallie Taylor, Promotions Manager of Wafi Mall said, “Wafi City Mall is delighted to be able to work with DTCM once again to provide a service that will be of benefit to visitors to the UAE and residents alike.”

“The location of the DTCM booth has been carefully chosen for its proximity to through traffic that will draw shoppers with its eye-catching design,” she added.
