A Brand New look for The Regent Singapore's Royal Ballroom

Travel News Asia 16 September 2002

The Regent Singapore's Royal Ballroom reopens her doors today, after a massive six week renovation. In line with The Regent Singapore's refurbishment plans, the Royal Ballroom is Phase Two of the hotel's "refit, rejuvenate and renew" campaign, following the completed renovations of all its guest rooms and executive suites.

After twelve months of careful planning, and a month-long, intensive round-the clock refurbishment, the Royal Ballroom is now ready with a totally brand new look and feel.

Spanning a total of 6,266 square feet, guests can look forward to an elegant and sophisticated function room, designed with the comforts and demands of the 21st century guest. New wall to wall carpeting with predominant hues of burnt gold, green gold and creamy yellow in grand scale geometric, antique pattern will cover the entire floor. Specially chosen for its motifs, the carpet is of irregular dyed wool to emphasise the hand dyed texture. Continuing with this motif is the fabric that covers all banquet chairs in a deep, rich russet colour, customed designed to enhance the new ballroom.

Leading away from the original wooden wall paneling is a refreshing twist of modernity. The new wall panels are designed with a fluted profile and custom coloured and hand finished in polished plaster. The combination of light and dark emperado marble wainscot, together with the backlit Marblo, custom coloured resin panels, all combine to produce great effect, providing the richness, warmth and reflective sparkle from the chandeliers.

The main lighting features for the ballroom are a combination of 11 decorative open arm chandeliers mouth blown in a customised smoky taupe Czechoslovakian glass with candlestick lamps, and an architectural grid of deeply recessed backlit bronze and alabaster panels. Throughout the entire ballroom, in-built recessed track lighting for highlighting table configurations, and retractable lighting bars to support high powered lighting spots, with intelligent dimming capabilities are also featured.

Other features that will render the new Royal Ballroom as a top choice for any private or corporate function include commissioned artworks by Eric Chen and custom designed accent furniture that will undoubtedly add to the elegance of the new ballroom; modernisations such as wireless and hard-wired highspeed internet access; and direct access with ample space for vehicle displays and launches to be held in the ballroom.

Mr. Dieter Janssen, General Manager, The Regent Singapore comments, "We are very pleased with the new look and feel of the Royal Ballroom. After much careful planning and attention to detail bearing the needs of the 21st century guest in mind, the final product is indeed a winner. So far, we have enjoyed much support and have received many bookings for corporate events and private functions, with one of Singapore's most talked about society events - the 2002 Tatler Ball, to be held here in October. By constantly upgrading our facilities and continuously ensuring that our service standards remain impeccable, we look forward to reaffirming The Regent Singapore's positioning as one of the leading hotels in Singapore."
