Beauty Blossoms at 2nd Macau Lotus Festival

11 June 2002

The 2nd Macau Lotus Festival, titled 'The Scent of Lotus Perfumes the City of Macau' will be held from June 22 to July 7, when more than 6,000 plants will festoon the major parks and gardens of Macau city and the islands of Taipa and Coloane.

Co-organized by Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau, Macau Government Tourist Office and Macau Lotus Culture Association, the 2nd Lotus Festival will feature some 200 varieties of the plant and special events. A series of activities marks the opening of the festival at Square of Senado on June 22, including the Lotus Art Fair with stalls selling handicrafts, snacks, tea, drinks, and performances of dancing, singing, drama etc.

The theme lotus for this year is the Da SaJin (Large Embroidered Brocade), a precious and elegant specie whose petals are embroidered with veins or patched in red or green, as suggested by its name.

Look for lotus blossoms on parade at the Square of Senado, Dr. Carlos D'Assumpcão Park, Comendador Ho Yin Garden, Sun Yat Sen Gardens and Lou Lim Ieoc Gardens on Macau peninsula, Flower City Garden, Avenida Da Praia Residences on Taipa and Seac Pai Van Park on Coloane.

A drawing contest, flower arranging, lotus photo exhibition and several lotus related events will be available for the enjoyment, education and delight of residents and visitors alike.

To attract more tourists to Macau for the festival of color and aroma, MGTO will promote this event globally through its overseas representatives and publications.

The closing ceremony for the 2nd Macau Lotus Festival will be held on July 7 at Avenida Da Praia Residences.
