KLM CARGO AND TNT EXPRESS CEMENT EUROPEAN PARTNERSHIP

Travel News Asia Date: 9 October 2001

KLM Cargo and TNT Express today jointly announced that, effective October 29, 2001, TNT Express will become the sole supplier of European airborne feeder services for KLM Cargo.

Operations will begin with shared utilization of TNT Express freighter capacity on key routes; to Helsinki (four times weekly), Dublin (seven times weekly), Oporto (twice weekly), and Madrid (once weekly). A high frequency truck service between TNT’s hub in Liege, Belgium, and KLM’s hub at Schiphol will ensure competitive throughput times for customers.

The co-operation enables TNT Express to extend collection cut off times and provide shorter door to door delivery times in many parts of Europe. KLM Cargo will no longer operate its leased freighter on European routes. Both parties have agreed to further expand the co-operation by improving frequencies and adding other destinations in the coming period.

Michael Wisbrun, EVP – KLM Cargo said: “We are pleased with the timing of this agreement and the immediate positive effect on our bottom line. But most of all, we are pleased with the long-term and structural nature of this partnership, which will create breakthrough opportunities for KLM Cargo’s customers.”

This move paves the way for further cooperation between the two companies. TNT Express and KLM Cargo are committed to offering their customers joint, integrated distribution services using their combined networks and capabilities. TNT Express is increasingly making use of KLM Cargo’s intercontinental network.

Christian Drenthen, Managing Director of the TNT Express Network Business Unit, said “This is an important venture for both ourselves and KLM Cargo. It demonstrates not only our commitment to building stronger partnerships with other powerful airlines but also reinforces our position as the best express delivery operator in Europe. In such uncertain times in the aviation industry we are pleased to be announcing added benefits for our customers.”
