Air New Zealand to Buy Fleet of 16 Beech 1900D Airliners

New Zealand's flag carrier, Air New Zealand, has entered into a letter of intent with Raytheon Aircraft for 16 new Beech 1900D Airliners for its 100 percent owned regional carrier, Eagle Airways. The company expects aircraft deliveries to begin in mid-year 2001, and continue at the rate of one per month.

"Raytheon Aircraft is delighted to accept an important and significant fleet transaction from this new customer," said Hansel Tookes, chairman and CEO of Raytheon Aircraft. "It reflects confidence in our 1900D, and we appreciate the new business from a major international air carrier."

Air New Zealand's interest demonstrates continuing strong commitment to the New Zealand regional market. The new 1900Ds will operate throughout New Zealand.

Air New Zealand CEO Gary Toomey said, "I am pleased that Eagle Airways will be able to offer customers a new standard of comfort on our 19 seater regional services. This reinforces our partnership in the Star Alliance to offer the best product for the mission." Other Star Alliance partners served by the 1900D include United Airlines and Air Canada.
