Travel News Asia Date: 8 October 2001

The Oriental, Bangkok was voted “The World’s Top Business Hotel” in the 2001 Business Traveller Awards, and Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong was voted the best business hotel in Hong Kong.

Mr Kurt Wachtveitl, General Manager of The Oriental said “Having celebrated our 125 year anniversary this year, we are delighted to receive such a prestigious award. It is tremendously rewarding to receive this recognition from our guests and I am extremely appreciative to all our staff for making this possible.”

The Business Traveller annual Reader Poll is the only independent travel survey conducted by a UK based publication which complies with the rules of the Market Research Society. Compiled from the response of Business Traveller’s 150,000 readers in the UK and mainland Europe, the results of the Business Traveller Reader Poll, now in it’s 18th year, are independently assessed by a third party.

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is the award-winning owner and operator of some of the world’s most prestigious hotels, including The Oriental, Bangkok, Mandarin Oriental, Hong Kong and Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London. In total, the Group operates 19 luxury hotels in key leisure and business destinations, with two hotels under development, one in New York (opening early 2004) and the other in Tokyo (opening 2006). In total, Mandarin Oriental employs almost 9,000 staff in three continents with 10 hotels in Asia, six in North America and three in Europe.
