Travel News Asia Date: 7 October 2001

Jumeirah International, the Dubai based prestigious hospitality group, was presented with two top awards at the Business Traveller Awards ceremony, held at the Dorchester Hotel, London on the 3rd of October.

This was announced at a press conference on October 7th at the Dubai Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing's (DTCM) Head Office by the Director General, Khalid A. bin Sulayem.

Speaking to reporters at the press conference, Mr. bin Sulayem said, "I am delighted that the Jumeirah International has won these top awards. Such recognition will ensure that the group strives to remain at the forefront in the hotel industry in the region and winning these awards will serve to accelerate that process."

Mr. bin Sulayem noted that Dubai offers a wide array of top quality hotels with facilities to rival the best in the world. In addition to the existing 284 hotels, there are a number of major hotel developments in the pipeline.

"Dubai is exceptionally well endowed with top class hotel accommodation and part of the reason for this is that the hotel industry serves incoming tourists and business visitors, as well as plays an important role in the social and community life of Dubai residents," stressed Mr. bin Sulayem.

"I am confident that these awards will provide a boost to the Jumeirah International to do even better in the future and to all hotels in Dubai to follow their model," he added.

The awards, which include Best Resort Hotel in the World and Best Business Hotel in the Middle East for The Jumeirah Beach Hotel, were presented to the company by HRH Princess Anne, The Princess Royal. In addition, the Emirates Towers Hotel was one of the runners-up in the category of Best New Business Hotel in the World.

The annual Business Traveller Awards presentation, now in its 18th year, honours the best of the world's travel industry as voted by Business Traveller magazine's readership. The ceremony this year was attended by a number of high profile personalities.

Gerald Lawless, Managing Director of Jumeirah International, who received the awards, commented: "We believe our hotels have really found their way into the hearts of travellers from all over the world. We are of course delighted to win not one but two of these prestigious awards, an honour we value very highly, since they are a reflection of our commitment to quality in all that we do".

Jumeirah International is well known for its award-winning and distinctive properties in Dubai and its commitment to quality and service. Its Dubai properties include the famous sail-shaped Burj Al Arab, The Jumeirah Beach Hotel and Emirates Towers. The hotels are regarded as being among the most luxurious and innovative in the world and have won numerous travel and design awards; their success has underpinned Dubai's dynamic growth in recent years as a business and tourism centre.
