CATHAY PACIFIC TO RESUME SERVICE TO KARACHI AND ADD MORE DIRECT FLIGHTS TO DUBAI

Travel News Asia Date: 7 December 2001

Cathay Pacific Airways will resume service between Hong Kong and Karachi, Pakistan from 9 January 2002. As before, all flights on the three-times-a-week return service from Hong Kong to Karachi will be routed through Bangkok. The service had been suspended since 28 October due to the softening of the global economy and its impact on the airline industry.

In addition, Cathay Pacific will also introduce two additional direct flights from Hong Kong to Dubai from 16 January 2002. The new twice-weekly return flight will be operated using the Airbus 330-300 and passengers can choose to travel in Cathay Pacific’s First, Business or Economy class. This latest addition increases the number of flights to Dubai to 11 a week.

Cathay Pacific's Director and Chief Operating Officer Philip Chen said: “We are delighted to announce the resumption of service between Hong Kong and Karachi, as well as introduce additional flights to Dubai. Both Karachi and Dubai are major trading centres and providing flight services there will help strengthen business ties between Hong Kong and the two cities. It will also further enhance Hong Kong as Asia’s leading aviation hub.”
