Thailand changes to nine digit telephone numbers

Travel News Asia Date: 5 July 2001

Thailand inaugurates nine-digit telephone phone numbers throughout the country beginning today (Thursday 5 July) to allow an expansion of the network.

Land line customers in Bangkok and surrounding provinces, including Nonthaburi, Samut Prakarn and Pathum Thani, will add a 02 prefix to current numbers.

Those calling provincial areas will be required to add area codes to original numbers -- for example, 032 for numbers in Phetchaburi province, 053 for Chiang Mai and 076 for Phuket.

Mobile users must dial 01, followed by their contact mobile numbers. Calls from personal communication telephones to other PCTs add 02, followed by original number.

International calls to Thailand will not be affected.
