A DEPUTY CHAIRMAN FOR THE SINGAPORE TOURISM BOARD

A new Deputy Chairman has been appointed to the Singapore Tourism Board. He is 47-year-old Mr Wee Ee Chao, currently Chairman and Managing Director of UOB Kay Hian Holdings Ltd and Director of Kheng Leong Co. Pte Ltd.

Mr Wee, a graduate from The American University, Washington DC, said he was delighted to be appointed to the Board and looked forward to shaping strategies that will enable the Board to become a force for change.

He said, "While tourism has been consistently contributing to the nation's GDP, the industry itself is a dynamic and evolving one. The internet, changing distribution channels and new emerging markets are just some of the aspects of the rapidly changing landscape. These are exciting times for the industry and I am definitely looking forward to the challenges ahead."

Mr Wee is also currently a member of the Sentosa Review Committee. He has been active and made significant contributions to the Committee's deliberations and recommendations.

Mr Edmund Cheng, Chairman, STB welcomed Mr Wee to the Board. "Ee Chao will certainly bring to the Board a fresh perspective. With his extensive experience in corporate management and global exposure to a diversity of business, he will help us identify what needs to be strengthened in the industry. With his passion for the arts and culture, Ee Chao will also add value to our efforts to nurture lifestyle businesses in Singapore and attract global players to our shores."
