The Curtain Falls in Style for Fashion Festival 2001

Travel News Asia Date: 31 March 2001

The two-week long Fashion Festival 2001 ends with an evening of glamour and high-drama on 31 March 2001 with Christian Dior's Spring/Summer collection 2001 highlighting this season's latest rock chic fashion. Aptly named, Glam Rock with Dior, the gala event begins with a dinner at the statuesque Fullerton Hotel with a post-dinner party, Rock Bash @ Zouk.

Guest-of-Honour, BG George Yeo, Minster for Trade and Industry will grace the occasion.

Christian Dior's Spring/Summer 2001 will feature their prét-á-porter by master designer, John Galliano who is known internationally for his bold and trend-setting designs. Local rock singer, John Molina will set the mood for the evening at the dinner for 350 guests prior to the fashion show.

The whole ballroom at the Fullerton Hotel will be transformed to create a hip, funky atmosphere. 35 models will parade Dior's latest collection inspired by the mid-Americana-trailer park chic, and the movie Thelma and Louise for its romantic freedom. This season's collection is about personality and attitude, with a sexy and daring mood.

The excitement of the evening escalates as the Guest-of-Honour is chauffeured in a Rolls Royce convertible, accompanied by a convoy of BMW motorbikes to Zouk for the fashion party there. At the stroke of midnight, 19 models, still donning Dior's signature collection, will make a roaring entry on motorbikes to continue to party the night away.

Mr Kevin Leong, Director Events Marketing from Singapore Tourism Board noted that:" This show is an appropriate closure for the festival.

Christian Dior not only offers an interesting representation of fashion, it also reflects the contemporary fashion trends. An added draw is that these pieces are available in stores so consumers can get hold of them immediately. This is in line with the objective of Fashion Festival to satisfy consumer's demand for live fashion shows featuring varied the latest designs in vogue from the world's best fashion which have been so far available only to trade players."

"Christian Dior is delighted to participate in Singapore's first fashion week and is very honoured to be asked to close the fashion festival with our hip and trendy Spring/ Summer 2001 collection in a gala evening at the Fullerton Hotel.

As a leading French fashion house, Christian Dior is committed to bringing style and luxury to the world. Singapore exemplifies an exciting fashion scene and we are pleased to show our new collection which combines glamour with playful street style. Drive down Route 66 and experience "trailer park chic" which is inspired by scenes of middle America. Floral prints and leather, chifforn and zippers, camouflage and fishnet stockings are mixed and matched to create a whimsical take on fashion today," said Ms May Choong, General Manager, Christian Dior (Singapore) Pte Ltd.

"The idea of Fashion Festival 2001 is to bring high fashion in a fun and entertaining way directly to the consumers. It is therefore befitting that we end the Festival with a Dior show with its fun and playful collection," said Mr David Lim, CEO, MS Twilight Pte Ltd, the organiser of Fashion Festival 2001.

Fashion Festival is held from 16 to 31 March 01. It is a fashion extravaganza, which has its role in reinforcing Singapore's global image as a city that welcomes the latest and the best from the international fashion circuit. The Festival hopes to ride on the strategic timing in March when the season's Spring/Summer collections arrive in the stores. This provides a co-ordinated platform that will create a fashion frenzy, boost retail sales and tourists arrivals.
