HOTEL INTER-CONTINENTAL RIYADH’S NEW LOOK COMBINES BUISINESS WITH PLEASURE

Travel News Asia Date: 29 August 2001

Mixing business with pleasure has taken on a new dimension at the Hotel Inter-Continental Riyadh, where impressive new developments have highlighted the shape of things to come for guests at Six Continents Hotels’ growing portfolio of properties in Saudi Arabia.

Business and leisure travellers are benefiting from a major renovation programme at the hotel, which has seen the addition of a spectacular new fitness and sports facility, together with the creation of some of the finest conference facilities in the Saudi capital.

The newly-opened Palms Golf and Country Club features a superbly-equipped health club, which boasts state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, and is set in luxurious gardens leading to the hotel’s own nine-hole golf course.

Overlooking the club’s two swimming pools, a new gymnasium features the latest range of Stairmaster cardio machines and Icarian resistance machines, as well as a computerised fitness testing room.

Guests can choose from a variety of massage treatments, or relax and take refreshments at the Palms Café, with the tennis courts, and golf course, beckoning.

Added to its splendid range of sports and leisure facilities, the Hotel Inter-Continental Riyadh has further boosted its appeal as a meetings, special events and incentive venue by unveiling a new-look conference centre.

Following an extensive renovation, the hotel’s spacious ballroom offers a venue capable of accommodating 1,200 conference delegates theatre style, or 1,000 diners, beneath elegant crystal chandeliers. Guests arrive through a new entrance, highlighted by a fountain and regal staircase.

“What all this means is that we have a fantastic new range of facilities to offer business and leisure travellers, as well as conference, meetings and incentive organisers,” said Chris Moloney, General Manager of the Hotel Inter-Continental Riyadh and Regional Director of Operations, Six Continents Hotels, Saudi Arabia.

The hotel’s transformation is part of a major development programme in Saudi Arabia by Six Continents Hotels, formerly Bass Hotels & Resorts. Six Continents Hotels operates Inter-Continental, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn and Express by Holiday Inn hotels and resorts across the Middle East and Africa, and around the world.

Currently operating 24 properties in the Kingdom, with five under development and more in the pipeline, Six Continents Hotels already offers a broad selection of hotel options across the country to suit all tastes, and budgets.

Choices include mountain and beach resort possibilities with Inter-Continental hotels and resorts in Abha and Jubail, and a wide range of prime city centre locations, from the Al Fau Crowne Plaza in Jeddah to the Minhal Holiday Inn Riyadh.

With the Dar El Tawhid Inter-Continental opening in Makkah late next year, and four Holiday Inn hotels also taking shape across the kingdom, Six Continents Hotels is looking towards many other new projects in Saudi, with the aim to provide guests with an even broader range of hospitality options in the years ahead.
