Northwest to Expand Detroit/London, Ontario Flights

Northwest Airlines (Nasdaq: NWAC) and its Northwest Airlink affiliate, Mesaba Airlines, announced today it will expand nonstop Detroit, Mich. - London, Ontario service from four daily flights to five daily flights beginning April 16, 2001. All flights will operate with Saab 340 aircraft and offer convenient connections at Northwest's Detroit hub.

In Detroit, passengers will have the ability to connect to more than 400 daily flights on Northwest, Northwest Airlink, and alliance partners Continental Airlines and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines to more than 130 non-stop destinations in the United States, Mexico, Europe and Asia.

"The increase from four to five daily nonstop flights between Northwest's largest hub and London is a commitment of service for Ontario," said Bryan Ebensteiner, Northwest Airlines director airlink planning. "We are happy to provide five nonstop flights to Detroit and convenient access to other major markets through Northwest's Detroit hub. Both corporate and leisure travelers will benefit."

"This increase in daily service will benefit London travelers immensely by providing convenient connections to great destinations around the world and making it easier for others to visit our great city. I applaud Northwest Airlines for this move," said Mike Seabrook, London International Airport vice president - commercial services.

Along with its 26 global partners, Northwest serves more than 750 cities in more than 120 countries on six continents. Together with Wayne County, Northwest is opening a new $1.2 billion domestic and international airport terminal in Detroit, Mich., December 2001, which includes the addition of 25 new commuter gates with passenger-loading bridges, a luggage handling system with 11 domestic claim carousels and 1.5 miles of moving walkways, along with two 200-passenger indoor trams.
