SINGAPORE: WORLD’S FAVOURITE BUSINESS CITY

Travel News Asia Date: 26 October 2001

Thousands of travellers in Asia and Europe have voted for Singapore as their Best Business Destination. This was the unanimous result of three separate readership polls conducted by Time Magazine, Business Traveller Asia Pacific (BTAP) and Business Traveller UK (BTUK).

This is the first time European business travellers have voted for Singapore as their favourite business city in the BTUK poll. Singapore has toppled London’s three-year reign.

But this is the third successive year that Singapore is gained the unanimous vote of BTAP’s readers as their best business city in the world.

Singapore Tourism Board’s Chief Executive , Mr Yeo Khee Leng said: “Such recognition from frequent business travellers is excellent for Singapore. We thank all those who have given their votes of confidence, and we promise them that we in Singapore, will continue to ensure we do not disappoint them.

“In these difficult times, we wish to assure our customers and partners in the industry that the STB will do everything possible to work towards recovery together with them. Our strategies have been and will always be, guided by the priorities of our partners. These awards won by Singapore are testimony to the industry’s illustrious record.”

Criteria used by the publications ranged from infrastructure to relative ease of doing business.

Other winners from Singapore were Changi Airport and Singapore Airlines, which topped readers’ choice in the BTAP and Time awards.

Last year, about 19 per cent of total visitor arrivals to Singapore were business travellers.

Singapore has also been ranked the world’s top fifth convention city and Asia’s number one by the Union des Associations Internationales – the MICE industry’s international barometer of conventions cities’ standards.
