United Airlines today re-christened flight UA 1 from Los Angeles to Hong Kong “The Rush Hour Express” to promote Jackie Chan’s latest Hollywood action-comedy Rush Hour 2, as well as the destination Hong Kong. This special flight is scheduled to arrive in Hong Kong on Friday, July 27 in the evening. Passengers aboard the flight will be the first to view this keenly anticipated film which is scheduled for the Hong Kong market later this summer.

United also announced that Rush Hour 2, in which a United 747-400 aircraft is featured, will be the first in-flight movie premiere of the millennium.

Approximately six million air travelers boarding United Airlines jets in the United States during the remainder of July and the whole of August will get a chance to view Rush Hour 2.

The program will target United’s entire domestic fleet with a promotion focused on travel to Hong Kong, a destination which is featured prominently in the film which also stars Chris Tucker and Zhang Ziyi of Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon.

The campaign includes games designed to promote Hong Kong in the US using different media such as radio and the Internet. Winners will be awarded a holiday package to Hong Kong on United.

The Hong Kong Tourism Board will incorporate scenes from Rush Hour 2 into their "Destination Hong Kong" travel video for the month of August. The video is aired on board United flights.

“United is pleased to be participating in promoting Rush Hour 2 as well as Hong Kong as a destination. We’re excited to be able to offer this one-of-a-kind entertainment opportunity to our customers,” said Nicolas E. Ferri, United’s General Sales Manager for Hong Kong. “United’s daily nonstop flights from its key US gateways including Los Angeles to Asia’s top business centers underscore the airline’s commitment to provide travelers with unparalleled service to this rapidly growing market.”

Rush Hour 2, which will be introduced to the Hong Kong market in August, is the highly anticipated sequel to the blockbuster comedy that grossed more than US$250 million worldwide. Chris Tucker and Jackie Chan reprise their roles as unlikely partners who confront an unrivaled nemesis (Zhang Ziyi) and the biggest case of their careers. As Detectives Carter and Lee become increasingly tangled in a criminal conspiracy involving a deadly Triad, the non-stop adventure takes them on a journey from Hong Kong to Los Angeles to Las Vegas where they must use all of their talents to trap one of the world’s most feared gangsters. Directed by Brett Ratner, Rush Hour 2 is produced by Arthur Sarkissian and Roger Birnbaum.
