KLM INTRODUCES SURCHARGE ON TICKET COUPONS AND HIGHER US AND MID-EAST FARES

Travel News Asia Date: 24 September 2001

KLM Royal Dutch Airlines today announced the airline is adding a USD 5 surcharge worldwide to all ticket coupons with immediate effect. Additionally, as of October 16, KLM will increase fares for travel from the Netherlands to cities in the United States and the Middle East by five percent.

KLM Cargo will further adjust the changes to airfreight rates already proposed for November 1, 2001, for North Atlantic and other routes.

KLM, along with many other airlines, has been compelled to adopt these price adjustments in response to the sharp increase in various costs, including insurance premiums and for extra security measures and by changes in market conditions since the September 11 terrorist attacks on the United States.
