MARRIOTT REACHES 15 MILLION REWARDS MEMBERS -- AN INDUSTRY RECORD

Welcomes UK enrollee at London's Renaissance Chancery Court Hotel

Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) announced today that its Marriott Rewards frequent guest program has reached an industry record of 15 million members. J.W. Marriott, Jr., son of the company founder and Marriott International chairman and chief executive officer, personally welcomed Neil Thayer of Bath, England as the program's 15 millionth member and awarded him a trip for two to the 2002 Olympic Winter Games in Salt Lake City, Utah. Mr. Thayer became Marriott Rewards' 15 millionth member when he enrolled while checking in to the new Renaissance London Chancery Court Hotel. Mr. Thayer is on business travel and is staying at the hotel for several days.

Marriott Rewards was voted "Best Hotel Rewards Program in the World" in Business Traveler magazine's 2000 readership poll and received the Best Loyalty Program Trophees Hermes from HTR Eurotrends and Marketing. With 2,000 participating hotels in 60 countries, the program offers travelers the fastest way to a free night or a free flight, as well as elite level benefits that range from bonus points and reservation guarantees to room upgrades and complimentary welcome refreshments. After joining Marriott Rewards, frequent travelers typically double their number of stays with Marriott lodging brands.
Named by the London Times as "one of the most exciting hotels in the world for 2001," the Renaissance London Chancery Court Hotel is located in a landmark 1914 building and features a grand staircase of rare Pavonazzo marble, soaring archways, Ionic columns and a classical central courtyard.
