Air New Zealand Not About to Change its Name

Travel News Asia Date: 24 July 2001

Air New Zealand has today affirmed its total commitment to the Air New Zealand company name and the 'Koru' brand following weekend speculation.

An unsourced story in a Sunday newspaper claimed the airline is considering a name change encompassing its trans-Tasman interests. This is incorrect.

"I can give an absolute commitment that Air New Zealand is going to keep its name and the internationally recognised Koru brand," said President and CEO of the Air New Zealand group, Gary Toomey.

"I've read the speculation this morning and all I can say is that the paper has got it wrong," he said.

The airline has confirmed that it is going through an advertising pitch process with a number of agencies and is working towards a re-branding exercise next year. However, the exercise does not include a change for the name of business or a change from the Koru symbol.
