NEW DIRECT SYDNEY-ADELAIDE ROUTE - $99 FROM MARCH 1 VIRGIN BLUE CLOSING THE GAP

Travel News Asia Date: 24 January 2001

Virgin Blue Airlines will begin direct flights between Adelaide and Sydney as of March 1 based on the tremendous demand being experienced on its Adelaide-Brisbane and Sydney-Brisbane routes.

In keeping with tradition, Virgin Blue has announced a special launch fare offer of $99 for 9 days for all seats on all flights from March 1-9 between the two cities if booked on the internet either directly or via a travel agent.

Virgin Blue’s latest internet innovations are allowing the airline to offer a more time and cost efficient booking service and Virgin Blue is keen to pass on its savings to Guests who book using the net.

Guests who prefer to make their booking through Virgin Blue Reservations are still able to take advantage of a special launch fare of $104 one way.

Australia’s true low fare carrier began operating out of Adelaide on December 7 last year, offering for the first time, affordable, direct flights to Brisbane.

Chief Executive Officer, Brett Godfrey, said “Both our leisure and business Guests have made it clear they want more services to more destinations and we are doing our best to oblige”.

He continued, “Our aim is to venture in to cities across Australia that have been neglected, poorly serviced or held to ransom by other airlines and provide more people with fun, efficient and affordable air travel”.

Virgin Blue will operate three direct return flights a day between Sydney and Adelaide from March 1 and expects to increase that to six daily returns concurrent with the delivery of new aircraft.

It will compliment Virgin Blue’s existing double daily Adelaide-Brisbane route and nine daily Sydney-Brisbane returns, strengthening its presence in both capital cities.

The airline is currently operating out of a temporary terminal in Adelaide but is expecting to move into the International Terminal by the end of February, where extensions are being completed to cater for Guests on the increasing number of Virgin Blue flights.

In Sydney, Virgin Blue operates out of the convenient Domestic Express Terminal.

Bookings for the $99 launch special can be made between today and our first flight between Adelaide and Sydney on March 1 online at www.virginblue.com.au or the $104 fare can be booked by calling one of Virgin Blue’s friendly reservations team members on 13 6789. Virgin Blue reservations can also be made via most travel agencies throughout Australia.
