ANSETT LAUNCHES NEW SENIORS FARES WITH SAVINGS UP TO 60% OFF

Travel News Asia Date: 24 August 2001

Australians who are 60 years of age and over now represent the fastest growing demographic sector in the country. This group is set to benefit from the launch today of Ansett's new Seniors fare, which offers them up to 60% off the full price of an airline ticket.

The fares are available across Ansett's domestic network, and simply require the presentation of a Seniors card at the time of booking and check-in.

Ansett believes that the rapidly expanding 'Over 60' market, which is expected to rise by 25.68% from 2,413,800 in 2000 (last audited) to 3,033,800 by 2006*, is well placed to take advantage of the flexible new fare, which requires a minimum stay of three days and five days advance purchase.

The Seniors fare will be permanently available as part of the Ansett range of fares, and can be changed, re-routed or cancelled should the need arise.

"Our decision to launch the new Seniors fare was in direct response to our research into this sector of our customers, where the demand for short notice travel with flexible conditions is destined to increase as the population gets progressively older and has more time to travel," said Gary Toomey, Ansett's Chief Executive Officer.

"The maturing of the Australian population is now well-documented, and our new fare is ideally suited to this important group, both in terms of affordability, flexibility and the comprehensive network we offer travellers," he said.

The launch of the Seniors fare will be accompanied by a national press advertising campaign targeted at major daily newspapers.

The fare can be booked through Ansett Reservations on 131 300 or through any AFTA travel agent.
