Travel News Asia Date: 24 April 2001

Tickets are now available to jazz workshops and clinics conducted in conjunction with the upcoming Singapore International Jazz Festival.

Tickets are available from SISTIC at a nominal sum of $4 for workshops and $9 for clinics. All sessions will be held at Thomson Community Club.

This jazz education series is arranged as part of the festival organisers commitment to give local budding musicians the chance to learn from the well-accomplished jazz musicians and to help generate interest in jazz amongst the young.

Frank Tiberi, a 22-year veteran and the bandleader of the renowned Woody Herman Orchestra, will share his thoughts on the Big Band sound at the Big Band and Saxophone Workshop on 17 May at 7.30pm. The Orchestra will be performing at the festival on the evening of 18 May.

Famed Japanese trumpeter Terumasa Hino will conduct the Combo and Trumpet Workshop on 19 May at 3.30pm.

There will be two clinics, both conducted concurrently on 19 May at 4.45pm for the serious jazz enthusiasts. Top American bass guitarist Jay Anderson will conduct the Bass Clinic, and Eugene Pao, arguably Asias top jazz guitarist will conduct the Guitar Clinic.

Anderson and Pao will be performing as part of the Asia/America All Stars with Hino at the Festivals Acoustic Nite, 20 May.

The Singapore International Jazz Festival is presented by Singapore Airlines (SIA) and co-sponsored by Heineken and American Express. Showcasing more than 50 performances by over 150 musicians on four stages around Suntec City, the Festival promises to be the biggest in Asia this year.
