Travel News Asia Date: 23 August 2001

Galileo UK Customers Now Able to Enjoy This Service Enhancement with Singapore Airlines

Galileo International, Inc. (NYSE: GLC), a leading provider of electronic global distribution services (GDS) for the travel industry, announced today that it has further expanded its electronic ticketing offerings in the United Kingdom with the addition of Singapore Airlines. This latest deployment allows Galileo customers in the UK to now benefit from this service enhancement with 12 carriers and strengthens Galileo's leading position for electronic ticketing offerings in this key market.

“Singapore Airlines is delighted that Galileo travel agents in the UK can now issue electronic tickets for our flights,” said Michelle Dee, Singapore Airline’s reservations manager, UK and Ireland. “The flexibility that this service enhancement brings will assist Singapore Airlines in its efforts to better serve our customers.”

“Galileo is very pleased to be partnering with Singapore Airlines to provide this functionality to our agency customers. We are currently working with other airlines to further increase our portfolio of electronic ticketing carriers in the UK and throughout Europe,” said Robin Ranken, director, Airline Sales for Galileo’s Europe, Middle East and Africa region.

Bryan Conway, Galileo’s sales and marketing director, Subscriber Sales and Service, UK, Ireland and Scandinavia added, “With the addition of Singapore Airlines, Galileo now has 12 carriers offering electronic ticketing in the UK. This gives our agency customers a significant competitive edge when fulfilling their clients’ travel requests.”

Electronic ticketing benefits all parties in the travel equation. For airlines, electronic ticketing is considered a cost-savings tool and an enhanced service to their customers. Administrative costs are greatly reduced over paper ticketing, improving the airline’s revenue accounting processes. Travel agencies also benefit by no longer having to process or keep track of reams of paper tickets, saving on personnel, processing and mailing costs. The travelling experience for the consumer is also greatly enhanced, as they are able to enjoy the freedom, efficiency and ease that ticketless travel allows.

To date, Galileo’s computer reservation systems now include 30 airlines that offer electronic ticketing in 25 countries.
