Another Boeing 737-800 Takes To Turkish Skies With Sky Airlines

Travel News Asia Date: 20 November 2001

Sky Airlines today celebrated the delivery of its first Boeing 737-800. The carrier based in Antalya, Turkey, will be operating the jetliner under a lease agreement with GATX Capital, a finance and leasing company.

"The plan to standardize our fleet with 737-800s is the logical choice for Sky Airlines," stated Talha Gorgulu, chairman of Sky Airlines. "Our passengers have enjoyed the efficiency, reliability, comfort and low cost of the current 737-400s in our fleet and now they will have an opportunity to experience an even more pleasing way to fly with us."

A new wing design and upgraded engines increase performance while reducing noise and emissions. The 737-800 also shares the enhancements of the other members of the Next-Generation 737 family (737-600/-700/-900), including a new, more spacious interior, and the latest technology in the flight deck.

"Thanks to its superior design and advanced technologies, the Boeing 737 enjoys an excellent reputation for reliability, passenger comfort and the lowest operating costs in its class," said Doug Groseclose, senior vice president of International Sales, Boeing Commercial Airplanes.

"Sky Airlines' decision to fly the 737 will help reduce its fleet costs as it has for other carriers around the world."

Sky Airlines is a charter operator with routes connecting Turkey to several European destinations. It is the fifth Turkish carrier to be operating the Next-Generation 737, bringing the total number of 737s in Turkish skies to 80.
