Inaugural charter flight from Seoul to Macau arrived at late night on Tuesday

Travel News Asia Date: 20 July 2001

The Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO) and Freedom Travel of Korea cooperate to provide a charter flight service between Macau and Seoul during summer this year. This will encourage more residents from the two places to visit each other and to further enhance the tourism industries of the two. The inaugural flight arrived at the Macau International Airport at late night of July 17, 2001.

The MGTO and Freedom Travel have come to an agreement to provide 20 charter flights from July 17 to August 31 this year. The two parties have decided to use Korean Airlines with a schedule of 3 flights per week.

The inaugural flight has received 160 passengers, that includes the President of Freedom Travel, Mr. Sim Yang Bo, representatives of Korean Airlines and reporters from Korea. The rest of the passengers were tourists from Korea who joined the travelling tours to visit Macau.

When the inaugural flight delegation arrived at the Macau International Airport, MGTO officers welcomed them and presented souvenirs to the passengers.

Freedom Travel, the organization that participates in the charter flight service is a large scope travel agency and is responsible for the promotion and the overall arrangement of the Korea tour groups to Macau. MGTO believes the cooperation with Freedom Travel is going to attract more Korea tourists to visit Macau. It is a golden opportunity to develop more source markets during the summer season. Since the Korea tourists came to Macau in tours of three to five days, this would reach the target of prolonging the tourists length of stay.

Korea has been one of the very important tourism markets to Macau. For the first five months of this year, the number of Korea tourists has increased by 8%. Each year, MGTO participates in tourism promotions in Korea to attract more Koreans to Macau. In which this year, MGTO has taken part in KOFTA2001.
