Travel News Asia Date: 20 January 2001

The global brand’s fifth property in Egypt

Le Meridien announced its fifth hotel in Egypt and 22nd in the Middle East and West Asia region with the recent opening of Le Meridien Sharm El Sheikh, in South Sinai.

The 410-room resort property is located on the secluded White Knight beach on the Red Sea in the preserved area of Ras Mohamed National Park, with easy access to Mount Moses, St. Catherine’s Monastery and Nuweiba Fortress.

On its location, Michel Noblet, Managing Director, Le Meridien Middle East and West Asia, said: “When it comes to resort properties, we have earned ourselves a reputation for being able to seek out the unusual. Le Meridien Sharm El Sheikh, located by the renowned diving sites of White Knight Beach, enhances that status.”

According to hotel General Manager, Rudolf Borgesius, the resort is architecturally designed and landscaped to complement the local environment: “Le Meridien’s brand positioning combines European style and character with a genuine respect for local culture – and at Sharm El Sheikh, the result is a spectacular resort appealing to all markets,” he said.

“We expect to win business from the leisure, corporate and incentive travel markets, and will benefit from Le Meridien commitment to service excellence and global network.”

At Le Meridien Sharm El Sheikh, most guestrooms face seawards with a balcony or terrace view of nearby Tiran Island. They are equipped with individually controlled central air-conditioning, satellite television, pay movies, in-room safe, mini bar, hair dryer and IDD telephones.

The cuisine is varied with eight restaurants and bars serving international, Italian, Egyptian and seafood specialties.

For leisure, the hotel has a fitness centre, games room, tennis courts, air-conditioned squash courts, a three-section swimming pool with underwater music and offers a wide selection of land and water sports. It is located close to world-renowned diving and snorkelling sites as well as an 18-hole golf course.

The resort’s Penguin Club is for younger guests and includes a snack bar, pool, playground and indoor video games room.

Specifically for business and incentive travellers, Le Meridien Sharm El Sheikh features meeting and conference facilities for 350 delegates. It is equipped with state-of-the-art technical equipment to support conference, presentations and workshops.

The resort is located just a short drive from Sharm El Sheikh International Airport where domestic flights from Cairo and international flights from numerous destinations are frequent.

Le Meridien – the luxury brand of Forte Hotel Group - currently has a global portfolio of more than 150 hotels (32,000 rooms) in 55 countries worldwide and an annual turnover of more than US$2 billion.
