GALILEO APPOINTS NEW GENERAL MANAGER FOR GALILEO SOUTHERN CROSS

Travel News Asia Date: 20 April 2001

Galileo International, Inc. (NYSE: GLC), a leading provider of electronic global distribution services for the travel industry, announced today the appointment of Mark Rizzuto as the new general manager for Southern Cross Distribution Systems Pty Ltd (Galileo Southern Cross), which manages the distribution of the Galileo® computer reservations system throughout Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific. He will be based at Galileo Southern Cross’ head office in Sydney, Australia, and will report to Janie Kaung, vice president, Subscriber Sales and Service, for Galileo’s Asia Pacific region.

This appointment follows the acquisition today of Galileo Southern Cross, from Travel Industries Automated Systems Pty Limited (TIAS), the owners of which are Qantas Airways, Ansett Airlines and Air New Zealand.

“I am delighted that Mark will be taking charge of our operation for the Australian, New Zealand and South Pacific markets. Galileo Southern Cross is our largest market in the Asia Pacific region, and I am confident that with Mark’s strong level of experience, gained from over a decade in the global distribution services business at a senior level, both with airlines and travel agency customers, our presence will continue to grow,” said Kaung.

Rizzuto was previously Galileo’s business development manager for Australia, New Zealand and several other Asian markets. During this appointment he was responsible for increasing Galileo’s market share in his territories, whilst working with Galileo Southern Cross in recently re-securing a global contract with the region’s largest agency customer, Flight Centre Limited. Prior to Galileo, he was the general manager for Lumina Technologies, a subsidiary company of the Internet Travel Group, one of Australia’s largest corporate travel agencies.

Peter Stirling Benson, who has served as general manager for Galileo Southern Cross for the past two years, has resigned, and will be supporting Rizzuto to ensure an efficient hand-over.
