Travel News Asia Date: 18 June 2001

Emirates has appointed Anthony T G Gonsalves as its first-ever Manager Southern India. Based in Chennai, Mr Gonsalves will have responsibility for the whole region and is currently involved in preparations for the launch of services on July 1 to Hyderabad.

Anthony said: "I am delighted to join an airline that has set new standards in the air cargo industry. My aim is to use my 17 years' experience in freight forwarding and airline cargo operations to establish Emirates as the preferred cargo carrier in the South India region."

He was previously Senior Sales Manager South India for KLM Cargo. While with KLM, Anthony successfully opened and established a new station in Bangalore for KLM Cargo and took responsibility for the South India region at the relatively young age of 37.

No stranger to the Gulf, Anthony spent four years in Muscat as Cargo Manager for Bahwan Travel Agencies LLC, part of the Suhail and Saud Bahwan Group, one of the largest travel and cargo establishments in the Middle East.

He believes that his enthusiasm for import cargo sales and operations took root early in his career when he was Joint Manager of Lemuir Air Express, the flagship company of the Lemuir Group, one of the largest and most reputed cargo companies in India.

Anthony speaks English, Hindi, Tamil and Italian. He is married and his interests include reading, music, travel and sports.
