Travel News Asia Date: 15 October 2001

Marriott International (NYSE:MAR) announced that the Yangtze New World Hotel was converted to the Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel last week. This is the first Renaissance-branded hotel in mainland China.

The hotel is owned by the Shanghai New Asia Group, Hong Kong Renful Int'l Ltd., Bank of China Shanghai Trust & Consultancy Co, Shanghai Hong Qiao United Development Co. Ltd, and Kincheng Banking Corporation (HK Branch).

Located in the Hongqiao area, Shanghai’s business hub, the Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel is convenient to both Pudong and Hongqiao airports. It is adjacent to the Shanghai Mart, Shanghai International Exhibition/Trade Centers and a 10 minute drive to the Everbright Exhibition Center.

All of the hotel’s rooms have been refurbished to five-star standards. They have satellite TV and movie channels, mini bars, IDD telephones, central air-conditioning with individual climate control, and data ports in each room. Non-smoking floors are available.

For dining and entertainment, the Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel has four restaurants and a lobby lounge. The Renaissance Café serves a buffet for breakfast and dinner as well as an a la carte menu of Asian and Western dishes. The Pastisserie offers homemade breads, pastries, cakes, and other specialties. The Dynasty restaurant features the authentic Cantonese dish, dim sum, and other regional specialties. The Food Pavilion is a casual restaurant serving Cantonese noodle dishes as well as snacks from Shanghai. In addition, the hotel plans to open an Italian restaurant, Japanese sushi bar and wine and cigar bar in the near future.

For meetings and conferences, the Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel offers a multi-purpose ballroom and pre-function area, which can accommodate 450 people for banquet-seating and 1,000 people for cocktails. In addition, the hotel has three meeting rooms, which can hold 10-70 people. Two boardrooms and a private lounge are available for guests staying on the club floors.

The Renaissance Yangtze Shanghai Hotel along with over 2,100 Marriott-affiliated hotels worldwide participates in Marriott Rewards, the guest reward program that allows members to earn their choice of points or airline miles for dollars spent during each stay.
