Travel News Asia Date: 15 November 2001

Ramada International Hotels & Resorts, a division of Marriott International (NYSE: MAR), has expanded its portfolio in China with the opening of the 232-room Ramada Urumqi on October 26.

The hotel is owned by Xinjiang D’Long Real Estate Development Co, Ltd. The general manager is Tom Zhang.

Urumqi is on the famous Silk Road in Xinjiang Province in China’s northwest frontier region, a key area for economic expansion. The Ramada Urumqi is 23km from the Kashgar International Airport and five minutes from the train station. The hotel occupies part of the Tunhe Mansion, which is a mixed use building including four floors of office space. It is the second internationally branded hotel in Urumqi.

For entertainment, the hotel features a business center, beauty salon, gift shop, massage rooms, poker rooms, billiard room and a disco and karaoke bar. For dining and entertainment, the hotel offers a Middle Eastern restaurant, Chinese restaurant and a lobby lounge. For meetings and social functions, the Ramada Urumqi has three conference rooms, including a 400m room and two 70m rooms.

The Ramada Urumqi will maintain Ramada International’s five pillars, which are a restful sleep, an invigorating shower, a well-trained staff, an exceptional level of cleanliness, and the” Ramada Mornings Breakfast” – a selection that is hot, delicious and easy.

All of the hotel’s rates are listed in MARSHA, Marriott’s central reservations system, and are now bookable under the Ramada International GDS code NR in the Sabre, Worldspan, Amadeus and Apollo/Galileo systems as well as EM, for Every Marriott.

The Ramada Urumqi is the eighth Ramada hotel in China. The others are located in Dalian, Guangzhou, Hong Kong, Nanjing, Shanghai, Suzhou and Wuhan.

There are currently 130 Ramada International hotels in 17 countries and territories.
