Travel News Asia Date: 12 November 2001

Qantas Flight Update, a new service for the airline's Frequent Flyers begins today. Qantas Flight Update sends details of flight departure time changes to registered users on compatible mobile phones using SMS short text messages.

Qantas Flight Update covers all Qantas flights departing within Australia and most QantasLink flights.

Qantas Frequent Flyers who register for Qantas Flight Update before 30 November will be eligible for the draw to win one of five Sony PS2 Family Entertainment Packages. Valued at $6,600, the packs consist of: one Sony Playstation PS2, 15 of the latest DVD movies, 15 PS2 game titles, 15 music CDs and a Trinitron television and entertainment unit.

Qantas Group General Manager Marketing, Curtis Davies, said Qantas Flight Update was designed to help business travellers manage their time when travelling.

"Qantas Frequent Flyers are eligible to register free for Qantas Flight Update as they update their profile on-line at www.qantas.com.au. Customers need only register once to receive Qantas Flight Update for most travel arrangements with the airline," Mr Davies said.

"Qantas Flight Update advises domestic customers if their flight has been delayed by more than 30 minutes. Customers travelling on international services will be advised if there is a delay to their Australia-originating flight of more than an hour," he added.

These updates will be issued up to 60 minutes prior to scheduled domestic departures and up until 90 minutes prior to scheduled international departures
