NEW RENAISSANCE RESORT PLANNED FOR TURKEY

Travel News Asia Date: 8 November 2000

Marriott International, Inc. (NYSE:MAR) will franchise its third Renaissance property in Turkey with the opening in December 2000 of the 224-room Renaissance Erzurum Resort.

Erzurum is an emerging world-class ski resort destination in the eastern part of Turkey called East Anatolia and is located approximately a 90-minute flight from Istanbul and one hour from Ankara. The winter sports resort of Palandoken is a six kilometer drive away. In summer, Erzurum attracts mountaineers and devotees of hot springs. Historically important buildings include Seljuq theological colleges (1253 and 1308), the Great Mosque (12th century), and royal mausoleums (12th and 13th centuries). Erzurum is the seat of Ataturk University, and local craftsmen excel in metalwork and saddlery.

Currently under construction, the resort is owned by Polat Holdings SA, which is also the franchisee of the Renaissance Polat Istanbul Hotel.

“We are very excited with our growing presence in Turkey,” said Ed Fuller, president and managing director of international lodging at Marriott International. “This resort will nicely complement our Renaissance properties in Istanbul and Antalya, giving consumers additional opportunities to experience Turkey as a dynamic destination offering a variety of travel options.”

For dining and entertainment, the Renaissance Erzurum Resort will offer three restaurants and a Champions Sports Bar. Recreational amenities will include an indoor swimming pool and ahealth club. The resort will also offer 24-hour room service, in-room mini-bar, laundry/valet service, 24-hour medical service, beauty and barber shop, and mini-bus service to the city and airport.

For social events and conferences, the Renaissance Erzurum Resort will have 7,952 square feet of meeting space, including a 5,423-square-foot ballroom.
