Dragonair adds flights for Holiday Season

Travel News Asia 8 December 2004

Most Hong Kong travellers are heading south for the sun over the Christmas and New Year Holidays, although the winter attractions of at least one north Asia capital and one northern Mainland city will also be drawing visitors.

The travel hotspots over the end-of-year holidays, based on additional flights operated by Dragonair, are Kota Kinabalu in Malaysia and the tropical resort island of Phuket in Thailand.

Between December 22 and January 2, the airline will operate 10 additional flights to Kota Kinabalu and seven to Phuket. There will also be larger aircraft used on one flight to Phuket and two flights to Bangkok.

“As the weather gets colder in Hong Kong people take the opportunity provided by the holidays to head to sunnier climes, especially those where there are beaches and clear water,” said Andy Tung, Chief Operating Officer.

“However, some are heading north, to the snowy attractions of Harbin, where we will be operating weekly services throughout the winter, and to Tokyo, which is an exciting city to visit any time of the year.”

The flights to Harbin, which operate every Saturday until February 19 next year, are available as packages from eight Hong Kong travel agents (China Travel Services (Hong Kong) Ltd.; Evergloss Tours Co. Ltd.; Hong Thai Travel Service Ltd.; Morning Star Travel Service Ltd.; Package Tours (HK) Ltd.; P&O Travel Ltd.; Sunflower Travel Service Ltd.; or Wing On Travel Service Ltd.)

Meanwhile, the airline is offering one additional flight to Tokyo.

“As usual over busy travel periods, we advise passengers to get to the airport early,” said Mr. Tung. “It is best to check in at least two hours before the scheduled departure time.”
