Singapore Airlines to raise Fuel Surcharge

Travel News Asia 8 November 2004

In view of the continuing high fuel prices, Singapore Airlines (SIA) has said it is to raise its fuel surcharge for tickets issued from 15 November onwards.

The increase in surcharge will be as follows:

- From US$ 7 to US$ 10 per sector on flights between Singapore and the following South East Asian cities: Bandar Seri Bagawan, Bangkok, Manila, Penang, Jakarta, Surabaya, Denpasar, Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi.

- From US$ 12 to US$ 22 per sector on all other flights.

These revisions are subject to official approval in some markets.

The surcharge levied on the Singapore - Kuala Lumpur service remains unchanged at US$ 4 per sector.

The airline commented that the revised surcharge will help defray, in part, the increase in costs arising from record fuel prices. The price of jet fuel has risen 37 per cent from when SIA first introduced a fuel surcharge in June.

A 1 US cent per American Gallon change in the jet fuel price translates to a movement in cost of US$11.4 million per annum.
