Abacus implements E-Ticketing service on EVA Airways

Travel News Asia 31 May 2004

Abacus-connected travel agents in Singapore and Thailand can, from today, issue electronic tickets (e-tickets) on all EVA Airways flights.

Taiwan-based EVA Airways is the latest carrier to implement e-ticketing services-connected agencies in Thailand & Singapore and is looking to extend the service to other markets such as Australia, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand and Philippines by July 2004.

"While travel agents in Taiwan are already enabled to issue e-tickets on EVA Airways, more markets like Singapore and Thailand in Asia Pacific can look forward to doing the same soon. This move will enable EVA Airways to better take advantage of the growing demand for travel within the Asia Pacific region by delivering fast and convenient ticketing services for our customers," said Albert Liao, Head of Information Management from EVA Airways.

Rogelio Sarreal, Vice President and Head of Associate Sales at Abacus, said e-ticketing was fast becoming an essential service for airlines, as increasing numbers of travellers became familiar with the technology.

"Enabling more airlines with electronic ticketing facilities has a two-fold benefit. Firstly, we are increasing the distribution channels for EVA Airways allowing them to reach out to a wider group of potential travellers. At the same time, we are enhancing Abacus' competitiveness in the market by providing our agents with the ability to provide these popular service to their customers," said Mr Sarreal.
