New Marriott property to open in Sydney in September 04

Travel News Asia 30 June 2004

The Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde in Sydney is scheduled to open 1 September.

The 196-room property is Sydney’s second and Australia’s third Courtyard by Marriott hotel - the 4/4.5 star product in the Marriott accommodation range. Courtyard properties have also been established at neighbouring Parramatta, and in Surfers Paradise, Queensland.

The Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde is located at the corner of Lane Cove and Talavera Roads, in the key Macquarie Park commercial zone, which is home in Australia to major corporations including Microsoft, Sony, Johnson & Johnson, Compuware, Aventra, ACNielsen and Honeywell.

The hotel, 12 kilometres from the Sydney CBD, is also located only 25 minutes from Parramatta, the geographic centre of Sydney, and 15 minutes from the Sydney Olympic Stadium in Homebush.

“Ryde is major commercial community in Sydney, and the demand for corporate accommodation is always high,” said Ms Louise Byrom, General Manager of the new hotel. “But until now, a shortage of rooms in this area has forced many business travellers to stay in the central business district or other less convenient areas.

“Our aim is twofold – to ease the shortage of rooms for corporate visitors to the inner north shore, particularly in our immediate vicinity, and to establish and build the Courtyard by Marriott brand in the corporate market,” said Mrs Byrom, the previous General Manager of the Courtyard by Marriott, Parramatta.

“Our property is designed to meet a specific requirement for affordable quality, providing modern, well-appointed rooms, meeting facilities and a restaurant. We will soon be announcing our pricing structure and introductory offers – and we will be participating in loyalty programmes including Marriott Rewards, Marriott Gold Card and Qantas Frequent Flyer.

Of the 196 rooms in the eight-storey Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde, there will be eight loft suites, all with king beds, plus 32 double rooms and 156 deluxe rooms.

Of the deluxe rooms, seven are Courtyard Rooms, each with an actual courtyard; 30 are rooms with balconies, and eight are wheelchair-accessible rooms.

The Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde has a total of 232 square metres of meeting space, capable of hosting business or small private gatherings, and has named its eight meeting rooms after neighbouring suburbs – Denistone, Melrose Park, Tennyson Point, Gladesville, Meadowbank, Eastwood, and Macquarie Park I and II.

And because Ryde was originally a fruit growing area, specialising in Granny Smith apples, the Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde has named its 120-seat restaurant and bar “Orchards”.

The Courtyard by Marriott North Ryde will share some corporate functions with sister property the Sydney Harbour Marriott Hotel, including information technology, human resources, finance and engineering.
