Record numbers carried by Dragonair over Chinese New Year Holiday

Travel News Asia 27 January 2004

Dragonair has broken all its records for the number of passengers carried by the airline on a single day.

15,762 people travelled with Dragonair on Monday January 26, beating the previous record of 14,711 carried on February 6, 2003, also during the Chinese New Year period.

Dragonair Chief Executive Officer Stanley Hui said that 65 additional flights were operated during Chinese New Year to meet the extra demand: "Monday was a particularly busy day as people returned from their holidays for the start of the working week.

"Despite the extra numbers, services operated smoothly and we were able to get people to their destinations largely on time.

"Popular beach holiday destinations Phuket and Kota Kinabalu got extra flights, as well as city destinations Shanghai and Hangzhou. We also added flights to Taiwan for tourists from Hong Kong and Taiwanese travellers returning home for the Chinese New Year holidays."

"It's been a good start to the Year of the Monkey!" Mr. Hui added.
