Virgin Blue today
confirmed plans to launch additional flights between Hobart–Sydney, Hobart-Melbourne and Launceston-Melbourne just in time for the peak travel period to and from
Tasmania.
Just three months after starting flights between Hobart and Sydney an extra daily service will be added to the schedule
commencing 5 December 2004.
Chief Commercial Officer, Stefan Pichler, said, “The people of Tasmania have been loyal and supportive of Virgin Blue from day
one and we are staunchly committed to making sure we continue to listen to the needs of both business and leisure
travellers. It’s been made clear to us that Tasmanian based business Guests want more options and are prepared to get behind the airline
that gives them not only low fares, but also true and committed customer service. We take Tasmania seriously and these
additional flights are indicative of our confidence in this market.”
He continued, “The new flight simply allows corporate travellers to get to Sydney, do their business and then get home again to
sleep in their own bed which saves both money and time. For leisure Guests, it’s yet another flight option to choose from which
is all about convenience and choice.”
Guests will also be able to take advantage of additional connections to Cairns, Coffs Harbour, the Gold Coast and Townsville via
Sydney to compliment connections already available via Virgin Blue’s other direct services to both Brisbane
and Melbourne.
In addition to the doubling of service on Hobart-Sydney, the airline will also add a fifth daily service on selected days between
Melbourne and Hobart for Tasmania’s peak travel period. The new service will operate on Thursday, Friday and Sunday
providing a late evening travel option between 4 November 2004 and 26 March 2005.
As well as the increase in capacity to and from Hobart and following strong support from travellers, Virgin Blue will also offer a
fourth weekday service between Launceston and Melbourne effective 1 November 2004.
